Everything’s raisin’ but the wages
Everything’s raisin’ but the wages
Gasoline, groceries, our ages
Everything’s raisin’ but the wages
They say they’re bailing out some banks
I’ll take some of that money thanks
Too big to fail what’s my life worth
I can’t afford to get to work
And if my job’s there, when I do
You know, I’ll be happy too
Everything’s raisin’ but the wages
Everything’s raisin’ but the wages
Gasoline, groceries, and our ages
Everything’s raisin’ but the wages
Big Corporations make the rules
They’re all crooks you know it’s true
Congressmen write the bills
The rest of us are broker still
You wouldn’t let a murderer pick his sentence
Don’t let them off just with repentance.
Everything’s raisin’ but the wages
Everything’s raisin’ but the wages
Gasoline, groceries, and our ages
Everything’s raisin’ but the wages

Brilliant album with such a beautiful atmosphere. And it gets even more intense live. I had the wonderful chance to see Sylvaine in Marseille and it was a blast. Zanghief

The best I've heard from Steve Earle in a while. The songs have a subtler, earthier tone, tastefully rendered in authentic sounding country/blues/bluegrass stylings. 'J.T' reminds of earlier records like 'Feel Alright' or 'Train a Comin'.
Deep grief, love and compassion is felt on the final track, the only composition from Steve, seemingly written for his son. The rest, composed by JT, do confirm what a great songwriter he really was. tideracer
